Laboratory Education

Laboratory Training Program

Laboratory staff have typically joined the Genetics Center with a BA or BS degree in a biological or similar science. Such staff have been put through Genetics Center’s training program to be qualified to test for and get their Clinical Laboratory Specialist in Cytogenetics (CLSp(CG)) certification. Genetics Center’s programs have also been recognized by the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA) as qualifying continuing education when our cytogenetic technologists have renewed their Clinical Laboratory Specialist in Cytogenetics (CLSp(CG)) certifications through the NCA.

CE Credits for Clinical Laboratory Scientists

As California is now licensing Clinical Cytogeneticist Scientists and will be requiring twelve-hours of continuing education (CE) per licensee per year starting with the year 2004, Genetics Center has expanded its commitment to continuing education to fully address this upcoming need. Therefore, Genetics Center applied for and was granted Continuing Education Accrediting Agency status by the State of California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Laboratory Field Services (LFS). Genetics Center holds LFS Registration Number 0189 and accredits its programs and the programs of other approved providers to meet the CE needs of California Clinical Cytogeneticist Scientists.
