Genetic Counseling
Genetics Center has a highly competent team of genetic counselors working closely with patients and physicians in order to give a complete understanding of specific genetic concerns. Our genetic counselors are highly skilled in counseling individuals indicated for prenatal diagnosis, with an elevated risk for cancer, or with a family history of a known or suspected genetic disorder.

During pregnancy, a physician may refer a patient for genetic counseling. A genetic counselor will review the details of the couple's family and pregnancy histories and provide them with information regarding the available prenatal diagnostic tests. They also offer additional genetic screening tests if indicated and the patient so desires, the counselor will explain and coordinate the elected tests.

Our genetic counselors are also skilled in genetic counseling for individuals concerned about a family history of cancer. They will meet with the patient and obtain a complete family history to help assess the cancer risk for that individual. The counselor will discuss the patient's options for genetic testing, if available, as well as, risks, benefits, and limitations of such testing. If the patient elects to proceed with genetic testing, the counselor will coordinate blood sampling from the patient and, if necessary, members of the patient's family. Once results are available, follow-up recommendations and referrals will be made.

We also offer identity testing (including paternity testing), as well as genetic screening for ovum donation. If you have any questions regarding family or pregnancy issues, prenatal diagnosis, identity testing, genetic screening for ovum donation, cancer-risk, genetic counseling, or other concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
